Josephine Silk Scarf

The Josephine Silk Scarf is part of My Granny’s Garden, a hand-drawn collection inspired by childhood trips to County Clare in the west of Ireland with my mother, Josephine.

Rooted in memory, landscape and family, the design brings together wild Irish roses, botanicals and a curious chaffinch — a familiar visitor to Irish gardens. The wild rose symbolises the strength and resilience of Irish women, past and present, while the soft peach colour was chosen for its comforting, nostalgic quality.

Created during a time of change, Josephine reflects a slower and simpler stage of life: summer gardens, remembered places, inherited stories and the quiet beauty of the Irish landscape.

Each illustration begins by hand in my Dublin studio before being transformed into silk. Soft, luminous and versatile, the scarf can be worn in many ways — as a neck scarf, head scarf, silk bandana, top, hair wrap or treasured keepsake.

As seen on the cover of The Irish Times Magazine, Josephine remains one of the signature pieces in the Georgina O’Hanlon Illustration collection.
